Guest Speaker - Jess Kennedy, coach of the Yea Football Netball Club Women’s Football Team.
Jess arrived straight from Thursday night training! Jess has previously spoken to the club as a Physiotherapist, running Progressive Physio in Yea.
This year is the first year of a women's team in Yea, and the club is still recruiting, currently with 34 registered players, to build a stainable team for many years to come. It has been a steep learning curve as a playing coach, after playing in higher level football leagues. Many players are still learning the game, and we are aiming for the game to be fun and educational. We have had a win this season, which was a thrill for all the team. Age of players range from 14 yr (playing on permit) to 46 yrs old!
On a personal level, Jess has played for Bendigo whilst at university and participated for 2 years in an academy in a build up to AWFL, playing for her team Carlton in its first year of AWFL, them moving to Richmond, back to Bendigo and now Yea. Jess spoke of the lack of amenities for women at football grounds, acknowledging the financial costs on clubs for upgrades.
Vote of thanks—Tony Jacobs.
