Guest Speaker — Dale McKeon — Yea Cruise Night and an insight to his classic car, “Christine”.
Thanks to his long and ongoing interest in classic cars, Dale saw that there was an opening to start a Cruise night in Yea. With the help of Jim Wolstencroft, from the former local Bushrodders' Car Club, the idea grew to hold monthly events during daylight savings time, for car enthusiasts to bring their beloved vehicles to Yea, where there could be viewed and admired by many locals and visitors. The first meeting in 2021 had a great response, and the nights just keep growing, with many travelling great distances to join in. There can be over 200 cars on a good night.
In 2012 Dale suffered a serious back injury, re-quiring surgery, and put an end to his metal fabrication career. He has been able to recreate his career with his passion for photography, and his displays of photographs on social media from the Cruise nights has led to many other bookings.
Dale also has an Instagram site, “Yea Per Day” where he challenges himself to capture a photograph of something in Yea.
The Cruise nights are held monthly, on the 2nd Saturday, during daylight savings. The local traders and community groups have greatly benefited from the increased trade as locals and visitors swarm into Yea to check out the cars! It is a fabulous event.
Dale’s partner, Amanda, is also a keen photographer and contributes to the social media to promote the cars and crowd!
