GUEST SPEAKER  Kate Turner - Murrindindi Wildlife Rescue Centre,

Kate spoke of her dedication to the rescue of native wildlife, their rehabilitation and release back into their natural environments. Kate started volunteering to and rehabilitation of wildlife in 2011, and in 2015, with the support of her father, set up her own centre in Strath Creek with the purchase of 150 acres of suitable land. To support her work, Kate has completed at La Trobe University a Batchelor degree in Animal & Veterinary Bioscience and a Batchelor degree in Veterinary Technology. Each year she accommodates over 100 native animals—possums, kangaroos, joeys, wombats and birds. She has 3 release sites, where the animals are released and monitored for a week while they find their own shelter. Kate is achieving this without ongoing funding, always looking for small grants and using her own limited re-sources to run the centre, as well as relying on donations and volunteers to make ends meet. Animal medications, fuel (over 90 litres each week) and a further $500 each month for kangaroo and possum milk, to name a few expenses, are adding up to over $30,000 plus fuel annually.
Vote of Thanks from Bob Dewar, acknowledging the tireless work done by Kate.
