Thai Night
ENGLISH CORNER PROJECT—Tippy Anderson

Tippy then gave an update on the English Corner Project to which funds from tonight would be donated.
She showed us photos of her old school in Northeast Thailand where the project started. David and Tippy visited the school and the Principal loves English so has been very supportive of the project. So... funds were sought and the old AIA Insurance Library became the English Corner.

Our chefs for tonight were Yao and husband John who built and ran The Last Straw Café in Shepparton until the end of 2022. John explained the main course to us which was a selection of Massaman Curry and Thai Chicken and Vegetables served with Jas-mine Rice. He also explained that there were no knives on the table because everything came in bite sized pieces.

This was followed by desert of Kanom Tom—flour balls flavoured with vegetables and pandana and sago with fruits including jackfruit

We were then treated to 2 beautiful Thai dances  Baci is a phi ritual used to celebrate important events and occasions. The events are usually related to the hu-man soul – such as the birth of a child, marriages, entering the monk-hood, recovery form sickness, seek-ing cure for any ill health, beginning a new year or other festival and wel-coming people especially honoured visitors and guests of importance
The ritual of the baci involves tying strings around a person’s wrist to preserve good luck and has become a national custom.
The ceremony of Baci is held on any day throughout the year as it is meant to commemorate specific events in an individual's life. It is usually held before noon.
