Guest Speaker - Don Knight, retiring chairperson of Yea Wetlands Committee.
Don and Gidget moved to Yea, setting up a small alpaca stud on Dairy Creek Road in 2010, and Don has been involved with the Yea Wet-lands Committee for the past 13 years, of which he was Chairman for the past 4 years.
Don has used his retail experience to help develop the Yea Wetlands Discovery Centre.
Don commenced his working career on the floor at Coles, finishing 30 years later as state manager, then moving into private business by purchasing and operating a shop fitting company.
Don was previously involved with the Yea Business & Tourism Association, now non operative, and has thrown his weight behind the development of set up of Yea Wetlands Discovery Centre—overseeing compliance, signage, partnerships with Murrindindi Council and Taungurung Traditional Owners, redevelopment of interpretive space, induction of volunteers and ongoing development of retail space. In partnership with Murrindindi Shire there are now have 2 parttime staff members.

Sue, as President of the St Lukes Op Shop, spoke of the very progressive retail outlet in Yea! St Lukes Op Shop has operated in High Street for 20 years, and currently has over 50 volunteers, many who have been there since it opened its doors! It is a very rewarding enterprise, which is putting funds directly back into the community. The Christmas Hampers is a great example of where our money is going.
The committee has recently had a realistic overview of best practices, and to meet with Worksafe workplace safety and harassment compliances, as well as manage rosters and other day to day administration, has recent-ly employed a store manager. Working Monday to Friday 10 to 4, this has enabled us to comply with legislated requirements and brought a fresh touch to our shop front!
