Guest Speaker = Julie Chung
We had a great Zoom catch up with Julie, our inbound short term exchange student who was hosted by Nakaiah and mum Cheyenne. Julie reminisced on her 3 month exchange, arriving in July where she initially found our winter to be really cold! She spoke of highlights which included meeting school friends, joining in pottery club and being creative, winning the raffle at Rotary meeting!, along with the fun of trying new foods such as pizza. Thankyou to Jill for the trips to Melbourne, especially the beach boxes at Brighton. The ride in the classic car at the end of her exchange was a thrill (and the newspaper coverage!). Meeting other exchange students and travelling to the Great Barrier Reef with them where she tried scuba diving which was a highlight. Julie celebrated her 17th Birthday while she was in Yea. She met a lot of people and gained the confidence to travel by herself. Julie enjoyed the opportunity to improve her English, and also was able to assist at school with the Mandarin classes.

Tony gave an update on Blue Dragon Children's Charity, a foundation that works to protect and rescue street kids and trafficked women in Vietnam. Many of the street kids are forced to work in sweat shops, and the women sent over the border to China, where they are forced to work in brothels or forced into marriage. Their aim is to protect kids and help them to return home, where support is offered to families to over-come poverty which is often the initial cause for street children. Blue Dragon has extended its support beyond Vietnam, and is now working across south east Asian countries. Blue Dragon has a staff of 165 and relies upon grants and fund raising to carry out its mission.
