Three Minute Speaker: Penny Paxman
Melbourne Rotary has installed four Peace Bells in the Rotary Melbourne Peace Park, - in southeastern corner of Botanic Gardens, Melbourne. Designed by Neil McLachlan, who also designed the Federation bells in Birrarung Marr, the bells promote Peace, one of Rotary’s 7 Areas of Focus, with each bell engraved with one of the four steps to peace:
1. Seek Peace Within—without being at peace in ourselves, it is difficult to build peace with others.
2. Make Peace At Home—if there was no conflict in our homes, we would engage more peacefully outside.
3. Create Peace in Your Community—including social, sporting, work and other communities which make up our society.
4. Foster Peace Between Peoples and Lands—including respect and recognition for all different cultures and also caring for our environment.
Well worth a wander through the gardens to explore the Peace bells

Discussion about Membership
President Tony Introduced Sharon Fox, District Assistant Governor, Alexandra Rotary Club, to speak tonight at Club Assembly on Member-ship Recruitment, a concern for our club.
Sharon has taken on role of District Assistant Governor, with a family history of active Rotarians, with her father, Roy, being involved in the original Charter for Yea club.
Tony J: Membership loses, or potential loss, will erode new members for 2022.  With aging membership we need to recruit the next generation of Rotary members and leaders.
Sharon: During her role as President of Alexandra RC her goal was to bring in new members. All club members were involved in the membership drive. Friends of Rotary, people to call on for extra assistance, of which some has resulted in new members for Alexandra. The age group of the 7 new members is 54–70s. It is Rotary’s presence in the community which attracts people.
David A: We need to encourage our Rotary Exchange students to be involved.
Tippy: Youth Exchange student, is now President of his club in Thailand. It is important to involve them.
Gary F: Within a radius of 3 kilometres we have 3 major housing developments. We need to letterbox drop, including an invitation to attend and find out about Rotary.
John S: In favour of dinners to introduce members to Rotary, and then follow up with invitation to meeting.
Penny P: With the media attention on Melbourne Convention, we need to start immediately with visibility in community, ie Rotary name badges and Rotary clothing. Car stickers with Rotary logo are on sale for $5.00
Bob D: Need to use networks within Yea, such as introduction groups involving new people to Yea. Rotary could support these to spread Rotary information.
Sue C: Membership recruitment is up to all of us!
