3 MINUTER—Gary Fitzgerald
Gary spoke about Major General Sir John Gellibrand-who is buried in the Yea Cemetery.
He was born in Tasmania in 1872, attended Sandhurst and joined the British Army where he served in South Af-rica.
In 1920 he became Chief Commissioner of the Victorian Police Force. He later became an MLA for Tasmania, was one of a small group who formed the Hobart Remembrance Club (now known as Legacy).
In 1936 he bought the property known as Balaclava in Yea. He died in 1945 and a local group are currently asking the Australian Army to re-store his grave which is in bad repair. A petition is under way to the Minister.
MEETING NOTES:

President Tony opened the meeting and welcomed Bruce Walker (our Guest Speaker) and Ann Kimberley from the Benalla Club.
He then announced that David Anderson has been appointed as
Regional Rotary Foundation Co-Ordinator (RRFC) for Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands and will take up the position from July 1, 2024.
David said he was honoured to be invited to fill this important Senior Rotary leadership role and that it was not something he had set his sights on as he first and foremost considered himself a volunteer. His one regret about taking up this position was that he was unable to serve as District Chair for the Rotary Foundation and that the role could change as a result of regionalization.
Other news from Tony included:
Work on our new shed is expected to commence by early October.
Goulburn Valley Suicide Awareness group has received a $20,000 grant to train counsellors to work with those affected by suicide.
We need to discuss and revote on regionalization
Banners are up for the Garden Expo and a roster was passed around at the meeting.
